As the latest trend in chic, upscale beauty products – in look, style and effectiveness – Hamadi is truly redefining what it means to go green.
Our ingredients are everything; they are the foundation of the product and the credibility in our identity as an organic brand. We use 100% natural and organic essential oils in each and every product. Essential oils are subtle, therapeutic-grade oils distilled from plants, shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes and seeds. They are oxygenating and help transport nutrients to the cells of our body. Without oxygen, cells cannot assimilate nutrients; therefore, the oxygenating essential oils can help us maintain our overall health and the health of our scalp and hair.
Hamadi holds itself to the highest standards and prohibits processes that are regarded as unsustainable, such as ethoxylation and genetic engineering. Each ingredient used in a product is traceable back to its source and we assure that the farming methods, extraction methods and packaging are sustainable. Hamadi adheres to all these standards in the sourcing and producing of the line. In early 2010, ECOCERT France certified Hamadi as a 100% organic hair care line. ECOCERT’s requirements are the most stringent of all regulations governing cosmetics. ECOCERT’s stamp of approval guarantees the genuine practice of environmental respect throughout the production process, from ingredients to packaging. This not only establishes respect for the consumer, but also enforces promotion of natural substances of a superior ecological quality. It also makes Hamadi’s certification is one of the very few hair care lines in the world with ECOCERT approval.
What is ECOCERT?
ECOCERT was established in France in 1991. It is a certifying agency accredited by COFRAC (Comité Français d’Accreditation/ Committee for Accreditation). It has successfully established a standard for formulating natural and organic skincare. The standards imparted by ECOCERT require that products be manufactured using substantial quantities of natural and organic ingredients procured using environmentally-friendly processes. Furthermore, ECOCERT prohibits processes that are regarded as unsustainable, such as ethoxylation and genetic engineering. ECOCERT requires that each ingredient used in a product be traceable back to its source and that the farming methods, extraction methods, and packaging are acceptable to the agency. Being certified by ECOCERT means Hamadi Organics adheres to all these standards in the sourcing and producing of the line.
What is the difference between ECOCERT and USDA Organic?
USDA (the United States Department of Agriculture) is the agency of the U.S. government under which organic standards are enforced. California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF) and Quality Assurance International (QAI) are just two of over 50 certification agencies that certify material according to the National Organic Program (NOP) for the USDA. These agencies certify food products only; while many food products can be used in skin, body and hair care (for example: honey, sea salt, lavender), there are many natural and organic ingredients that are not recognized by the USDA because they are not considered food. Likewise, there are several safe and natural methods used to obtain raw materials used in skincare and hair care that are permitted by ECOCERT and not applicable to the USDA.
ECOCERT is a worldwide certifier of organic farming products, and is accredited to certify organic ingredients according to the NOP standards under the USDA. It has become a leader in organic certification standards and currently certifies over 70% of the producers in France. ECOCERT is a non-government agency that has extended beyond agriculture to include other industries. Recognizing the need for standards in the development of natural skincare, ECOCERT defined a requirement level for manufacturers who make products with respect to the natural substances and the environment. ECOCERT currently certifies in over 80 countries providing two certifications: ECOCERT Natural and ECOCERT Natural and Organic.
Although Hamadi is an American business based in California, there was no question about which certification agency we trusted. Because our products are created to respect the environment and are of natural origin, it was very important to us to go through the full certification process entirely with an accredited and well-respected agency.
